H.E.R. | Vol. 2

June 21, 2017

I have admittedly slept on H.E.R. until very recently. I had vol. 1 on my to-listen list and hadn’t got around to it yet until a good friend of mine sent me “Every Kind of Way”, a short and sweet love song. I am blown away.

This album speaks directly to my soul. Her vocals are pristine, angelic, and are the focal point of her art. The music reminds me of dvsn – Sept 5th (2016), in the way that it’s soulful and has a dreamy flow. However, H.E.R. is more romantic rather than sexual, and is musically more minimalist compared to dvsn. H.E.R. is a straight up story teller. Vol. 2 is very honest, self-reflective and emotional.

Vol. 1 includes a cover of Drake’s "Jungle" (If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, 2015), one of my favourite Drake songs of all time which is true to the original but with her own vocal flair.

Both projects are stellar and are an incredible accomplishment for a relatively unknown artist. A stand out track for me straight away was Vol. 1’s “U” which completely sold her for me. I am a fan. I am a huge, huge fan.

She’s booked to go on tour with Bryson Tiller in August and September of this year which is certain to be lit. If only they would come to Australia. You can buy tickets to the US shows at: http://www.her-official.com/#tour.
